The Troop Committee
The Boy Scout Troop Committee is responsible for conducting the business of the troop, setting policy, and helping the Scoutmaster and Scouts with the outdoor program and other planned activities. The committee also has the responsibility to provide adults for boards of review. This is an important responsibility and is one area where help is always needed and appreciated. The committee consists of parent volunteers who fulfill various roles on the committee.
In executing its duties, the Troop Committee does the following:
- Meets approximately once a month during the Scout-year. The goal in troop 1525 is for the Committee to meet in accordance with earning the highest level on the “Journey to Excellence” which is the troop’s report card to the council.
- Responsible for the annual re-chartering of the Troop.
- Ensures quality adult leadership is recruited and trained and current in Youth Protection training.
- Ensures that all Youth Protection policies and guidelines are followed.
- Provides adequate meeting facilities (Saint Matthews United Methodist Church)
- Advises the SM on policies relating to Boy Scouting and Saint Matthews United Methodist Church as the chartering organization.
- Supports leaders in carrying out the program.
- Is responsible for finances, adequate funds, and disbursements in line with the approved budget plan.
- Obtains, maintains, and properly cares for troop property.
- Ensures the troop has an outdoor program (minimum or 10 days and nights per year).
- Serves on Boards of Review and Courts of Honor.
- Supports the SM in working with individual boys and problems that may affect the overall troop program.
- Provides for the special needs and assistance some boys may require.
- Assists the SM with handling behavioral problems.
Committee Positions
The troop committee is made up many adult leaders performing specific roles. The minimum required to recharter the troop is a Committee Chairman and at least two committee members.
The Committee Chair establishes all the committee positions and maintains the roster of committee members. The chair may restructure the roles of the committee as needed to meet the evolving needs of the troop.
